10 days is all it takes to a new you! Be sure you are ready to face the Chinese Year of the Dragon by doing some clearing out (dragons love a good clear out!)

DAY 1 Purse: go through your purse and clean it out. File all old receipts, dispose of all expired / unused cards. Does your purse reflect who you are now…perhaps it’s time to consider a new purse which is functional and fabulous! Your attitude toward money and abundance is reflected in your choice of purse.

DAY 2 Keys: symbolically unlock your hidden potential and open the doors to new opportunities. Ensure all of your keys are facing the same direction and are on the key ring from largest to smallest. Remove any unused keys from your key ring and add a positive symbol which can enhance the energy of your keys.

DAY 3 Car: wash your car, clean and vacuum the interior. Ensure that your car is safe and is in good mechanical order. Your car is an extension of yourself and represents your direction in life. Same applies for other modes of transport – bicycles, motorbikes and most importantly your feet! These are your primary mode of transport so ook after them!

DAY 4 Wardrobe: it’s time to go through your clothing and shoes and let go of all that does not represent who you are today. Items which have painful memories or associations must go. Give them away, donate them, or sell them. Items which no longer fit must go. Letting go of the old allows new energy to enter your life. It is now time to create a new image of who you are today.

DAY 5 Windows: clean the windows and glass doors of your home to provide clarity. The windows are like the eyes of your home and clean windows will heighten your insight and clarity.

Out with the old!
1. De-clutter: Grab a box, set a timer for five minutes and take it with you from room to room. Throw out old newspapers, magazines, empty bottles of shampoo, old clothes you know you’ll never wear again.
2. Vacuum: Get the old energy out by making the floors clean.
3. Do the laundry: Don’t have dirty clothes hanging around; throw on a load or two while you declutter but be sure to fold and put the clean clothes away.
4. Clean the bathroom: Make it sparkle.
5. Empty all garbages: You don’t want last years’ garbage hanging around, do you?
6. Clean out the refrigerator: Throw out half-empty jars of who knows what. You don’t want to go into the New Year with old or mouldy food lurking in the fridge.
7. Clear out visual clutter: Clear off the kitchen and bathroom counters, your desk, wherever there is a flat surface. Make as much space as possible. You cannot bring in new things if there is no room for them.
8. Garden: Make sure the lawn is mown, the edges down and the paths are swept.
9. Change the sheets and towels: Put clean sheets on all the beds on New Year’s Eve and clean towels in the bathroom and kitchen. New sheets are even better.
10. Clean the car: both inside and out.

In with the new!

1. Fill your pantry and kitchen: Fill the refrigerator and pantry with food – it is bad Feng Shui to have an empty refrigerator and pantry.
2. Go orange! Oranges are excellent symbols for the New Year and the Chinese celebrate the New Year by rolling oranges (symbols of gold) into the house. Place a big bowl of 8, 9, or 10 (the numbers of prosperity!) oranges in a central location in the house to symbolise an abundant, fruitful home.
3. Buy a new plant: Put a new plant or some flowers in the east (health & family relationships) sector of your house or office to symbolise your good health in the coming year.
4. Welcome good news: Place a golden bell in the NW corner of your home, office, or bedroom to bring good tidings from helpful people.
5. Hang up new calendars: And take down all of last years’ calendars.
6. Fill your wallet: Put some money in your wallet or even better go and buy a new wallet or purse and start your financial off with new energy!
8. Feed the birds: Birds are excellent Feng Shui and believed to bring good news. Fill your feeders or put out a feeder for the New Year.
9. Have fun and celebrate: Fun is good Feng Shui. Make your home a happy vibrant space by planning a Chinese New Years party of some kind.

How to Use Feng Shui to Design a Successful Business Card

A well designed business card is a mini billboard. It can advertise for you, be carried and referred to and it also makes an impression. If someone likes your card, they’ll hold onto it longer. If it’s unpleasant or cheap looking it will often end up in the recycle bin.

One of the first steps is to give your business cards a good look and that can be achieved with Feng Shui.

Use these 7 tips for designing business cards that will provide a good representation of your company – and may help boost your income!

1. Promote your growth. Trees are representative of growth and movement. Most business cards are “felled trees.” That is, they’re a rectangle (tree) shape, yet they are printed on the horizontal. Try placing your card design on the vertical. This is called the “chai” shape and it’s considered to bring money luck and much good fortune and riches. It also represents upward growth.

2. Use complimentary colours. As a rule certain colours and images don’t go together, such as black and yellow, yellow and green, red and blue or metallic colors, green and metal colors. Complimentary colours include blue and white, blue and black with metallic colors, red and yellow, green and brown with red, yellow and beige with metal colours.

3. Logos should move forward. Any logo that looks like it’s moving right to left will be going backwards. All movement in the logo should appear moving from left to right. This indicates forward growth and not heading backward. Even swirls and spirals should look and spiral to the right.

I have just recently returned from a fabulous couple of weeks in Phuket celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. While I was there I picked up a lovely bell from the Big Buddha statue to use to lift the energy of the homes of my Feng Shui clients. It sounds delightful.

But when I returned and had jetlag for the first day, I started ringing the bell and almost immediately my mood and feelings of lethargy lifted – it was amazing! The same happened effect happened to the energy of the house when I walked around ringing the bell – everything seems lighter and brighter (sounds bizarre I know!)

I then came across an article online that outlined this very effect:

Once stagnation sets in around your home, you may also experience a rise in aches and pains and you may feel less energetic, and maybe even depressed.

Low home vitality can express itself in your personal energy, creating fatigue and lethargy. Over time, it can make you vulnerable to other afflictions and problems that range from rashes, allergies, and infections.

If you find that your energy is low and little health complaints numerous, it might be a good idea to employ sound therapy in your home.

What is sound therapy?

A house that is still and quiet is the type of home that creates yin energy – and over time that kind of energy can depress the person with even the brightest and happiest outlook.

To lift the energy of your home, try incorporating the clear, pure sounds of a brass bell. The sound of a bell emits a tonal frequency that cuts through yin energy and dispels it from your home.

Begin by ringing a bell in the centre of the room or house and then move from the door in a clockwise fashion making sure to ring the bell in dark corners and stagnant areas. These areas collect yin energy and become a vacuum, drawing more yin energy to them.

When a bell is used, the sound penetrates through the yin energy and creates a clearing effect. Do this three times in each room to fully penetrate the area with cleansing sound chi.

If you want to permanently lift your energy and the energy around your home, be sure to use sound therapy daily. Install a water fountain, play music, or hang a windchime near a window to keep your home filled with active, natural sounds.

Even a radio or TV playing will keep a home energized with the sounds of life and activity – a key to keeping your home’s chi vibrant and the chi energized and refreshed.

The main reason I am in business is to help people create homes they love coming home to. I have clients who are very wealthy and clients who are spending their last cents with me as they desperately want to create a lovely atmosphere for themselves and their families.

But whatever their situation, the outcome is the same: harmony in the home.

Kathryn Weber is a Feng Shui consultant in Texas who had an article on this topic in her newsletter that I thought was fabulous so I wanted to share it with my readers:

Having a happy home life, successful career, ability to go and buy what you like when you want it, this brings happiness is true wealth. There are many people who have money, but lack wealth.

One time my husband and I were shopping for a new home. The houses were beautiful, but there is little furniture, or what’s there was of poor quality. It’s as though the owner’s money went into the homes, but there was no money to furnish the beautiful home with beautiful belongings.

Is that a wealthy homeowner? No.

That’s the paradox of wealth. Having money (or a big house or a nice car) doesn’t mean you are wealthy any more than breathing makes you healthy.

Having real wealth is about having a beautiful home, but also the ability to furnish it beautifully. Real wealth means you may have a wonderful car and beautiful home – but you also have accumulated wealth. Accumulated wealth brings security, comfort, and is relaxing.

Real wealth is the abundant, accumulated resource that’s there for you to use as you wish when you wish, and that keeps your family and security safeguarded. Money is easy, but simple money can become meaningless when it is only money and not wealth. Creating wealthy habits will have the effect of lifting your personal energy – and that is a powerful attractant to more wealth.

1. Repair broken energy.
Broken energy comes from, well, broken things. When your door scrapes against the threshold, it imbues your home with negative, irrigating energy. If your dishes are chipped, you are eating off of broken energy. This drains positive wealth energy and makes your house drained and more yin.

Our houses must be energized and broken things bring the energy level down — and that affects our prosperity. Keep your clothes, your home, your car and your doors in good working order. What’s broken that is draining your energy?

2. Putting wealth in, not just out.
Too often in our lives, we become accustomed to money flowing in and out of our lives — and not accumulating. The money comes in, the bills get paid, and the money flows right back out again. Energizing your home and life for wealth means putting energy INTO it. This includes making deposits into your accounts. Get into the habit of putting money in instead of just paying out. This energy builds over time — and so does your bank account. And you’d be surprised how that will make you feel.

Do you have a retirement or savings account? If so, set up automatic weekly or monthly withdrawals. Or, join Bank of America’s program that rounds off purchases to the nearest dollar and puts the extra amount into a savings account. Do you buy a large Diet Coke or coffee every day? Stop and then put that money into a piggy bank. A $1.50 drink each day amounts to $547 at the end of a year. Are you drinking $500′s worth of diet sodas or daily coffee drinks? What’s important is that you see yourself as ACCUMULATING money, not just being a pass-thru for it.

3. Energize your home.
Keep your home energized with fresh paint, lush landscaping. Just like an employer matching your 401K (superannuation), match your home with an investment in beautifying and updating your surroundings. Unlike a car, money put into a home will be an investment that will pay you back in energy — and if you sell it — in dollars. More importantly, by energizing your home, you magnetize your home for wealth energy. Landscaping is a very important ingredient because it brings vital dragon energy to the home. Lush flowers, trees and plants are healthy and invigorating and lift the energy of the house.

4. Energize your image.
Many times when someone doesn’t feel good or feel like they look good, they have a stuffed closet. A closet that’s rammed with shoes and clothes that are outdated will cause you to feel outdated too! If you are ready to “look the part” of a wealthy, happy and abundantly prosperous person, turn to your closet to get rid of the clothing that no longer suits you or is part of an outdated image.

If you have weight to lose, this could be even more important for you! Pare down your closet – including those articles of clothing that you used to fit it but haven’t in a long time. Wealth energy means moving energy and when you are stuck in an old look and outdated image, this can stop the energy flowing to you.

5. Energize your finances.
Get a red wallet and checkbook, put your investment and banking account information and statements in red folders and put bills into blue or black folders so they aren’t energized. Have a small basket to hold bills — and keep it small so your bills stay small. Clean out and organize your financial files and your purse or wallet. Streamline your credit cards so that you don’t have too many, limiting them to three or less. Add grains of sea salt to your wallet to “draw” money, just like sea water will draw soreness away from ache-y muscles!

6. Believe.
Do you believe you can be wealthy and prosperous? Do you think you deserve it? Do you really FEEL that way or are you just intellectualizing it? It’s so important that you believe you are worthy of being a prosperous person, someone who doesn’t just make a living, but makes a life with the money you earn. Observe your thoughts about wealth and money and see if it’s really not you who is standing in the way of money.

I have just returned from the Australian Feng Shui conference in Sydney where I not only learnt many new tips and ideas but also met some other very talented Feng Shui consultants from around the world.

One who I have yet to meet but would love to fly to Texas to do so is Kathryn Weber. I subscribe to Kathryn’s newsletter as it is a great way to keep up to date on what is happening in other parts of the world. Here is an article from her latest newsletter called: Creating Wealth Chi — Energizing Your Home with Potent Wealth Symbols

Our homes, like our dreams, speak in symbols. The art, the symbols, shapes, and colors we surround ourselves with at home tells a story of our lives.

Mine speaks to a love of travel and does so in the artwork that I’ve collected from around the world. It’s important that we place objects and items in our house that inspire and motivate us. We need items that make us feel good and help us move forward in life and lift up our energy.

Clutter has way of pressing down our energy.

When we fill our homes with excess stuff we have to ask ourselves what is it we are avoiding. Open space can be intimidating and clutter fills space.

Keeping excess stuff, especially collections, puts distance between us and our feelings or keeps us from intimate relationships because things can quickly and rapidly take the place of people — and even keep us from ourselves. In the process of removing the excess stuff in your life, you don’t just find space, you’ll find yourself.

It’s good feng shui to use auspicious symbols and enhancers around your home or office.

This is a great way to lift the energy of your home and your life. But you must have the space for it first. If you place a beautiful symbol in your home in the midst of clutter and excess, you will miss the effect and the ability of the symbol to work its magic for you.

When you clear the excess from your home, any symbols and beautiful elements you place there will become not only more noticeable but more potent in your life.

Add symbols for wealth and prosperity around your home and garden. When your whole space is energized, it becomes magnetic to wealth and success.

Use these 6 ideas for adding wealth chi to your home.

1. Add a water source. Water is vital for attracting and stimulating wealth. Many homes lack fountains, ponds and pools. The sounds and views of water flowing around your home brings vital prosperity chi to your home. Even a simple urn with a pump can bring beautiful, positive “sheng chi” — the kind of chi that attracts prosperity to a home. Add water to the southwest, east, north, and southeast to tap the best energy!

2. Look for symbols to add to your entrance. The front door is your home’s cash register drawer. Every time you open your front door, you can hear the “ka ching!” Enhancing the front door brings powerful, prosperity-enhancing energy to your entire home. My own front door has a mat that evokes the mystic knot — a symbol of enduring love, wealth and abundant opportunities.

This simple mat was bought at my local home center for $10 — but the opportunities it’s brought have been worth much, much more! Excellent prosperity symbols include the mystic knot, vases, double happiness symbols, wealth Buddhas, and prosperity kitties, called Neko cats.

3. Use Chinese coins. These are the round coins with the square hole in the middle and Chinese script on one side. Place these coins in your business or money files, tape them to a phone and carry them in your purse or wallet. Place an auspicious number of coins under your mattress to stimulate wealth and let you sleep on top of wealth energy! Use your imagination to use these, just make sure you put the Chinese script side up…not the underside… and tie them with red ribbon to “activate” them.

4. Place water symbols prominently. You’ve heard me say it over and over: water equals wealth. Place pictures of water, ships, and fish in important areas. Avoid placing any water elements in bedrooms, though.

Pictures of sailing ships at the entrance to your office or home (with the ships appearing to sail into the room) are especially good harbingers of good career and money news! Aquariums are also wonderful, powerful wealth activators, but the water must remain clear and the fish healthy.

5. Display wealth frogs. Wealth frogs are powerful representatives of money because their very shape is the shape of a coin purse! Homes that are on plots of land that are smaller at the front and larger at the rear are said to resemble a bag of money. Wealth frogs should always be placed facing a door and diagonal to it. Place the frogs on the floor or a low table.

6. Tap the phoenix. The phoenix bird brings wonderful opportunities as it is the “God of the Four Winds.” The phoenix will magnify your potential for success and draw others to you who can see your magnificence — and that attracts prosperity.

Place the phoenix or other beautiful bird (rooster, peacock) on the south corner of your desk or in your office or living room, or place a small boulder out in front of your house to resemble a footstool — this taps the phoenix celestial guardian of your home and raises your good name and brings more opportunities to you.

The key to your new home starts with Feng Shui

If you’re interested in applying the principles of Feng Shui to your life, moving into a new home is an ideal time to start.

Feng Shui consultant, Kerri Rodley of Domestic Downsizing in Brisbane, says Feng Shui is about the energy or Chi flowing through the home. She believes that houses have memories which must be cleared before new occupants make a fresh start.

“The energy of all past events that happened in the space will still linger inside,” she says. “When you move into a new space, it’s a good idea to do some space clearing with candles, incense or smudge sticks.

Give the entire house a very thorough clean, open all the windows to let the air flow through, then do some space clearing with candles, incense or smudge sticks.”

Kerri recommends preparing for the move by placing welcoming items in the home, such as beautiful flowers, fruits, plants or some of your favourite music.

“Buy your house a gift that you absolutely love,” she says. “It can be as small as a candle or as large as a new piece of furniture.

This should be the first object that you move into the house. And don’t move all the boxes into the house at once; leave them in the garage and bring them in one at a time.”

Kerri endorses the old tradition that you should never bring an old broom to a new home.

“Buy new cleaning equipment because this is a new space – you won’t want to ‘sweep in your old troubles’ with the broom from your last house.

If possible, hire a professional service company to clean your space 3 to 4 days before you move in. You don’t want your first act in your new space to be drudgery. It should be a happy, expectant event.”

Kerri recommends incorporating as many natural elements as possible into the home, such as plants, water and organic scents, and discourages the use of unhealthy or toxic substances.

She believes good Feng Shui also complements a green approach to living, as both promote health and wellbeing, and she offers the following tips to anyone moving house:

Place live plants in your home – Live plants breathe life into and around a home. Try growing herbs to use in the kitchen.

Use native rather than exotic plants as exotics may have been transported greater distances, leaving a larger carbon footprint. Plants with round leaves, such as Jade, are especially good for promoting prosperity.

Encourage natural light – It’s great for the energy of your home to allow bright, natural light to flow throughout the space, and it minimises energy usage at the same time.

Hang light rather than heavy curtains, and open doors and windows as much as possible to let in fresh air. For electric lighting, use dimmer switches to set a mood and adjust the chi for the time of day.

Get rid of the clutter – Having superfluous or unwanted items around can disrupt the positive energy in your home. Declutter and simplify your life for good Feng Shui.

Accumulate less so that your home and life are organised and free flowing. An orderly, clutter-free space is the best Feng Shui foundation for a new home.

Cut down on electronics – especially in the bedroom. The best scenario is to have no electronics in the bedroom at all. The television is a definite no-no as it will disrupt the calming flow of the bedroom.

Balance – We all want prosperity and more positive energy in our lives, but taking less and giving more back to the earth will help promote an atmosphere of balance which is essential in Feng Shui.

You will not only be promoting green responsibility, but you will be creating an opening for more good things to enter your life.

As a Feng Shui consultant, you can never know everything about Feng Shui – it would take many life times!

So I always take an interest into what other consultants have to say and Kathryn Weber has a newsletter called the Red Lotus Letter.

In her latest edition she had a great article on Feng Shui tips for your handbag which I thought my readers would love. (It is so bizarre as I was talking to colleagues yesterday on this very topic and then it appeared in my Inbox!)

It’s an indispensable tool, a valuable fashion asset and a source of all manner of important things like breath mints, a safety pin to fix a broken zipper, or keys to entertain a toddler. A woman’s purse is a collector of things – and sometimes those things are downright unhealthful.

According to recent studies, a woman’s purse ranks as one of the top ten germiest items we come in contact with on a regular basis. Ironically, a woman’s handbag is also the place where she carries her wealth and financial power.

Is your purse a symbol of wealth or is it a danger to your health? Maybe it’s a little of both.

Interestingly, for women, a purse is often a symbol of the self. An attractive, organized purse makes us feel better and more in control of our lives. When our purses are a mess and we can’t find anything, we feel lost and our bank accounts often reflect that scattered state.

Simply put, a purse with good Feng Shui is a purse that is organized, a handy resource, and supports its principal purpose: holding your money and financial wherewithal.

Read these tips to get your purse in tip top feng shui shape:

1. Elevate your purse.

You’d never see a man put his wallet on the floor, yet women put their purses on the floor all the time – in the restroom, at restaurants, at work. Always keep your purse elevated and off the floor. And never, ever, put it on the floor of the restroom. Hang it on a door hinge or the corner of the door. A great idea is to buy a purse hanger for those times when you want to put your purse down, but not on a floor. (I carry a Handbag Hooker in my handbag organiser so it is with me everywhere I go – Kerri)

2. Keep it clean.

Resist the temptation to throw gum or food wrappers, bits of paper or used tissues into your purse. What does it say when you carry trash in the same place as your money? Garbage should go in a trashcan and never into a purse.

3. Mind the change.

Avoid throwing change into your purse where it will fall to the bottom of the bag. This is disrespectful to money. If it’s too inconvenient to put change into a zippered coin compartment in your wallet, buy an old fashioned coinpurse that makes collecting change easy – and getting it out for tolls or parking meters — convenient too.

4. Be prepared.

Carry a small safety pin, a tiny container of dental floss, a small notepad with pen, a small pocketknife, highlighter pen and bottle of eye drops. Little items that make your purse a point of refuge in the world make you love your purse even more. Better still, when someone has a broken zipper they will forever remember you and your purse of wonders! Lastly, carry a $100 bill, but don’t spend it. Having a purse (and some cash) at the ready helps you be prepared for financial surprises.

5. Activate your purse.

If you see pretty hanging Chinese ornaments or tassels put some of these on your purse. These hangers are great for pumping up the feng shui volume of your purse and activating it for wealth. Choose hangers that appeal to you and that look especially pretty and coordinated. Yes, pretty is good Feng Shui!

6. Buy thoughtfully.

Like a bra, never buy a purse just for the fashion name or for how it looks. Make sure the purse hangs on your shoulder comfortably, and like a good bra, stays there. Even better, find a purse with enough compartments to hold small items like pens, your cell phone, and other items you need to get to quickly. Make sure you can easily close your purse for security sake, that you can find what you need and that the purse is working for you, not the other way around.

7. Use a key keeper.

These small hooks fit onto your purse and keep you from fishing around for your keys, which can endanger you if you’re trying to find them at night in an empty parking lot. By hanging on the edge of your purse, you can access your keys faster and more easily. This says you can find you way financially too.

8. Avoid wallet clutter.

Get a wallet that helps you stay organized with your money. Your money should be easily arranged, not rammed into a wad, and your credit cards should be easily accessed. Also, have only as many credit cards as you absolutely need. Too many credit cards becomes a financial trap, a credit score nightmare, and, well, clutter. When the clerks ask if you want one of the store-name-credit cards, tell them “No thanks; I’m cutting down on wallet clutter.” Who can argue with that?

9. Buy a purse in your personal wealth color.

Selecting a purse in a color that resonates with your personal wealth energy will help stimulate your wealth and money-making opportunities. If you don’t want to buy a purse in your personal wealth colors, other good options include red, metallic, white, black, and blue. Greens are also fine and a nice choice in 2010. The best choice for the year? Blue.

10. Pursue love.

The No. 1 Feng Shui rule for your purse? Don’t buy it unless you absolutely love it – and then treat it that way. Keep it clean, organized, and off the floor. Your money mojo will be activated and you’ll have more to spend and save. Show some purse love!

Going green and Feng Shui go hand in hand: it’s all about promoting a happier, healthier life. You can start going green as quickly as using your recycling bin and with Feng Shui it can be just as simple.

Feng Shui incorporates many natural elements, like living plants, water and organic scents while discouraging the use unhealthy and toxic substances. Try these suggestions in your own home and start to live a greener, more fulfilling life!

Add live plants to your home.

Live plants breathe life into and around a home. If you don’t have a green finger you can always resort to a replica made of natural fibres (such as silk) however live is always best. You could even just try growing herbs to use in your kitchen. Even better, use native plants rather than exotic ones that have to be transported (thus leaving a larger carbon footprint). Plants that have round leaves such as Jade plants are especially good for promoting prosperity.

Encourage natural light.

It’s great for the energy of your home to allow bright, natural light to flow throughout the space, and this is also good for your energy usage, as you won’t need to turn on lights as often. Replace heavy curtains with lighter ones and open the doors and windows as much as possible to let in the fresh air.

Lighting can brighten dark corners and invite more energy into an area but try to use natural light rather than increasing light fixtures and you will also benefit but reducing your electricity bill in the process! For electric lighting, dimmer switches also allow you to set a mood and adjust the chi (energy) for the time of day. Motion-sensor lighting can also be used and both will use less energy.

Get rid of the clutter.

Do you love it? Is it useful? Do you really need it? If you answered no to all three of these questions it is time to let it go.

Sometimes, we end up with items in our home that we don’t actually like, because our tastes have changed, we are in a different phase of our lives (i.e. not at Uni anymore!) or we inherit them from someone else and are too guilty to get rid of them in case they notice.

Having these items around can disrupt the positive energy in your home. If you can’t stand the bed side lamps in your bedroom, donate them to someone who can use them and will love them such as a student who recently left home or donate them to charity.

Anything you can do to declutter and simplify your life is good Feng Shui. Start by accumulating less so that your home and life are organised and free flowing. Recycle, repurpose, sell or donate items you no longer need and enjoy the clear space in your home.

Cut down on electronics (especially in the bedroom)

Some electronic devices in the bedroom such as an alarm clock may be necessary but they are not good in either a Feng Shui sense or an environmental sense. The television is a definite no-no as it will disrupt the calming flow of the bedroom and having it plugged in all of the time will leach energy even when it’s turned off. The best scenario is to have no electronics in the bedroom at all and switch all other appliances around the house off at the wall switch.

Balance

We all want prosperity and more positive energy in our lives, but taking less and giving more back to the earth will help promote an atmosphere of balance which is essential in Feng Shui. You will not only be promoting green responsibility, but you will be creating an opening for more good things to enter your life.

This is a great article on using mirrors in Feng Shui from a newsletter that I subscribe too – so I thought I would share it with you my reader:

Few feng shui activators and cures hold as much interest as the common mirror. Mirrors are a terrific decorating resource and have the potential to inspire more prosperity — even double beautiful views and invite the accompanying chi that goes with them.

Yet, using mirrors in feng shui is often misunderstood.

How does one use mirrors effectively? Are there rules for using mirrors in feng shui? If you have had questions about using mirrors correctly, the following should help you understand when, where and where not to use them.

MIRROR DO’S

1. DO reflect beautiful views. If your living room or dining room has a beautiful view of trees, blue skies, a garden or anything especially beautiful, a mirror is the perfect accessory. By positioning opposite the view, you can double the beauty.

2. DO reflect dining and living areas. Dining rooms are the perfect location for mirrors. Because the dining represents a family’s wealth, this in effect, magnifies this energy. Living rooms where families hold parties and gatherings are also good locations to hang a mirror and can double the number of people in the room for a more festive chi!

3. Do use mirrors to hide problems. Although not often thought of as a disguise, mirrors can make problems areas, like square pillars, “disappear.” Many homes have pillars, such as in basements, or in offices that stand in the middle of the room. By mirroring all four sides, the pillar essentially disappears.

4. DO use mirrors to double your cash. Placing a mirror to reflect a cash register, your jewelry, or close to the front door of a shop will pull more money chi, customers and prosperity to you.

5. DO place mirrors where they can open up space. If you have a really small room or a long hallway, this is the perfect spot to hang a mirror. Lean a mirror against a wall to visually open up the room. Place a mirror along the wall of a hallway to slow down chi and add some interest.

MIRROR DONT’S

6. DON’T place a mirror opposite a front door. This pushes the energy right back out the door. Time and time again I see businesses that go out of business and they have a mirror opposite the front door. If you want a mirror to open up your foyer, adding a mirror is a great idea. Just don’t put it opposite the front door.

7. DON’T reflect negative views. Make sure mirrors aren’t placed where they’ll reflect a toilet door, a fireplace (above a fireplace is fine), a stovetop, or messy areas. When you can see an ugly view in a mirror, this magnifies the energy. This is especially true of fire. A little fire keeps you warm; a lot of fire can quickly become excessive energy.

8. DON’T place a mirror where it will harm or send cutting energy. This is true of placing a mirror at the end of the hallway, which symbolically says “stay away” and draws negative energy. A mirror placed at the bottom of the stairs will cut off the feet or head; avoid placing here.

9. DON’T place a mirror in the bedroom where it can be over-stimulating. A mirror in the bedroom can create insomnia, especially if it reflects the bed. If there is a problem in the marriage, a mirror can also bring in unwanted interference in the relationship. Better to be safe (and well-rested) than sorry. If you just have to have a mirror in the bedroom, make sure it doesn’t reflect the bed.

10. DON’T use broken or pakua mirrors. Pakua mirrors are often hung with little regard, yet they send out the full force of chi toward that which they reflect. It amounts to sending a really nasty look toward your neighbor.

Is it any wonder these cause problems with relationships with others? These mirrors contain trigrams that are negative and are harmful to whoever they point toward and to the house where they hang. Avoid them. Cracked mirrors are also very negative energy as are small mirror tiles or anything that distorts or breaks up an image. Remove them.
